10th Welsh Capital Masters Swim Meet, 8th May 2010

Four South Beds Swimmers took to the road and went over the bridge into Wales for the 10th Welsh Capital Masters long course meet at Cardiff's fantastic International Pool.

Chris Ayers, Iris and Rita (who swam breaststroke) all entered the 400m Freestyle putting up credible times and gaining two silver medals.

Keith, swimming his old English Backstroke, then knocked nearly one and a half seconds off his pb for the 50m Backstroke but just missed out on a medal. Just 10 minutes later Keith swam the 100m Butterfly and finished it!!!

The second session started with Chris and Keith swimming the 200m IM. Chris broke her East Region record, even though she didn't feel she swam that well.

Iris followed up Chris's record breaking form with a new East Region record in the 50m Breaststroke.

Keith tried his hand at the 100m Backstroke and was please with his first effort.

In the third and final session Iris and Rita both swam in the same 200m Freestyle heat. Iris, in a tussle with 3 other swimmers, managed second in her age group while Rita finished strongly and knew she had more to give.

Chris swam a fantastic 200m Freestyle clocking a new East Region record and going under the magic three minute mark.

Keith then managed another pb in the 50m Butterfly and Rita gained a well deserved bronze in the 100m Breaststroke.

The final swim of the day was by Iris who broke 50 seconds for the 50m Freestyle and won the gold medal.

The final medal tally was 2 golds, 6 silver and 3 bronze and three East Region records.

We all had a great time in the principality and were very impressed with the friendliness and the organisation of The Capital Masters meet. I would personally recommend everybody to put the date in their diary for 2011.
