Swimmers Guide: K2 Crawley

South East Region Long Course Championships, February

Pool - A modern 8 lane 50m variable depth pool, kept around 1.8m deep for meets, with touchpads at both ends. Clean with spacious surrounds, this pool is a pleasure to swim in.

Changing facilities - large unisex changing area with spacious cubicles (used for both competition & leisure pools). Lockers are £1 refundable.

Spectators are housed in a large seating area with runs the length of the pool on one side above the changing rooms.

There is also a children's leisure pool, a climbing wall, outside running track, 5-a-side pitches, exhibition space etc.

Eating Facilities - Good restaurant which serves hot/cold food, but can get very busy especially if there's another major event on in the centre, and there is limited seating.

Parking - large free car park & overflow car park across the main road. Busy when the centre is busy, allow extra 10 mins if the overflow car park has to be used.

The SE Region masters LC is a two-day event which has all strokes including 800m Freestyle.

In 2009 run as a "No cards" event, with heat/lane information posted up about 30 minutes in advance. A witty and informative commentry from Ian Wollard (Barnet Copthall Supremo)adds to the interest. The 800m was held on the Saturday morning followed by a "30 minute warm-up" for swimmers who are doing the other morning events.

Positives

  • Really nice new pool and centre.
  • Very good standard of Competition.
  • All long course events catered for up to 800m.

Negatives

  • No swim down facilities.

Overall a very good meet if you are planning to do a long course competition.
